Adding Drivers to a Windows Setup CD

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Well at work today we’ve recieve a new IBM server. It’s a very nice x3650 for a customer but there’s a but. It doesn’t come with a floppy drive or PS2 ports. Great news really as they’re hardly ever used anyway. But not acctualy in this case as there’s no way to get Windows on there as the server’s RAID drivers aren’t stored on the Windows CDs.

So the problem now is to get the SCSI drivers onto the Windows 2003 setup CD. It’s pretty much the same for Windows XP.

We spent ages looking around the net to get hold of a decent artical to show us how to add the drivers to the CD for boot. Well it wasn’t linked enough around the web so here it is now - MS KB288344

HP HW6910Problem … problem … there’s something very funny going on with me PocketPC. GPS working and Bluetooth connected to the car, working lovely. When I’ve finished a phone call and the call gets dropped guess what, the GPS chip appears to power off !

What a pain in the ass !

No firmware update for it, but we’ll have to email HP as there’s no way this is right. Watch this space.

360 Games ?

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

XBox 360Where are all the games for the 360.

I can count on one hand all the decent games to play on the 360. I have money and I want to play games. I don’t get what the developers are all doing ? XBox live is a great platform and remember Rainbow Six on the orriginal XBox ? Blimey them was the days.

More to the point what is RARE doing ? They made some amazing games a few years ago, infact they made the best game ever (Goldeneye) IMO. They gone to sleep, eating too many pies paid for by MS ?

So someone out there make some devcent ones for me to give the cash out !

Use 123-Reg

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

IE 7 LogoDomain name registars, most people don’t really care about them or think about them. They just register their .co.uk or .com and think nothing more of it. There are hundreds or even thousands of them out there and I tried a load over the last few years.

I currently use, Nettica and 123-Reg both great prices and both with the most important thing a domain host should offer, DNS Management. DNS Management is so important for people that that like proper control of their domains. You can set everything you want, MX, CNAME, A Record etc.

Used to use Freeparking, EasySpace and 1&1 but found their systems buggy or the customer service bad. If you want great DNS Management and good pricing then I’d opt for 123-Reg.

Windows Vista

VistaThere are so many people out there moaning about Windows Vista not being ready for mainstream. Well we’ve got build 5472 here and find nothing wrong with it. We’ve done extensive testing on various machines with no real problems. I’d even go as far as to say it’s more stable than current Windows XP !

I’ve done most of my testing on a P4 with 4Gb RAM using the 64bit version. Appart from a few drivers not being avalbile I’m very happy with it. I’d be using it as my main OS if it wasn’t a pain to do the upgrades. I don’t want to go through the process of customizing and setting it all up as I like only to lose it all with the next build.

Nice new look that works well on the GeForce 7800GT in my main PC. But it’s also very usable on the macBook Pro. Just waiting for Parallels Desktop to support it and I’ll be well happy.

HP HW6910 Well I’m currently hacking my way through a HP iPAQ HW6910 after giving up on the Nokia E61 after only 2 weeks. Basic problem with the E61 is Symbian, and the way it handles windows.

Try working / reading a multipage Word doc, popping to make a call and coming back to it in the same place ! My likes and disslikes coming up soon :). The E61 hardware is much better though, tougher feel the HW6910 is cheep plastic.
